Platja de Can Pastilla
Espagne · Balearic Islands
The beach of Can Pastilla, located in the bay of Palma in Mallorca, is a popular urban spot for locals and visiting kiters. Close to Palma airport and the festive Ballermann area, it offers easy access by bus or car from the capital. It is a lively place where one combines kitesurfing sessions and relaxation by the sea.
The beach stretches for several kilometers of fine sand, with a dedicated kite area near the port. In summer, it is crowded with bathers, but kiters find their space on the hard part near the water. The atmosphere is relaxed, with kite schools on site and a medical center nearby.
Can Pastilla is suitable for both beginners and experienced riders, thanks to its varied conditions depending on thermal or stronger winds.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The spot of Can Pastilla offers a large launching and landing area on a hard sand beach near the port, with soft sand towards the waterline. Avoid marked swimming areas in summer, very frequented by tourists. The ideal launch is along the stone wall of the port, then turn the corner to find more consistent and less gusty wind.
The water surface is generally flat to choppy in summer with thermals, and turns into small waves in winter under depressions. Conditions do not depend on tides. For south winds (SE, S, SW), it is side-on to side-shore perfect for freeride. With the Tramontana from the northwest, the wind is more cross-onshore. In case of strong southeast to southwest wind (strength 6+), beach-break waves up to 3m form, with the best launch being the ramp near the marina.
The beach is 6 km long, but stay in the kite zone to avoid accidents. There is enough space even in high season if the markings are respected.
