Mallorca

The Playa de Muro (south), located in the bay of Alcúdia in northern Mallorca, is a popular spot for kitesurfing thanks to its fine sand and family-friendly atmosphere. There is a sailing school that offers equipment rental and lessons for all levels, with a designated channel for safe navigation.

This area attracts riders from all over the world for its consistent thermal wind and wide beach that allows easy access to the water. Locals particularly enjoy the southern part for its relative tranquility compared to the more touristy center.

It is a place where you can easily combine kiting and swimming, with protected dunes in the background that add to the Mediterranean charm.

The beach is oriented north-south, primarily exposed to winds from southeast to east, typical of the embat that blows in a side-on direction from the sea. This thermal wind picks up around noon and remains steady until evening, ideal for long sessions without gusts.

Launching is done directly from the flat sand, with no obstacles, and the take-off area is wide across the entire beach. A designated channel allows quick access to the deep water navigation area, where you can freeride or go strapless without worry.

The water surface remains flat to light chop even with a bit of swell, thanks to the sheltered bay. For beginners, stay close to the shore; advanced riders can head out to sea via the channel in a zodiac if needed. Watch out for swimmers during high season, the beach gets crowded in the afternoon.

Vent ideal
SEdominant
Edominant

The ideal conditions are an embat of 12-18 knots from the southeast in a side-on direction, with a flat water surface and perfect visibility. Great for all levels starting from 10 knots stable.

État de la mer

The water surface is generally flat with the embat, turning to light chop if the wind is strong. The protected bay limits the swell to less than 1m even with a mistral.

Courants marins

Currents are weak in the bay of Alcúdia, but more pronounced in the channel where the water flows out to sea. Tides are moderate in the Mediterranean, with a range of about 30-50 cm, having little impact on navigation.

Always check the tide schedules to anticipate any outgoing flow.

Taille de kite recommandée

Opt for kite sizes of 9 to 12m² in standard embat of 10-15 knots. Beginners should use 12m², while advanced riders can go down to 7-9m² on windier days.

Météo & vent

The embat is the local wind, a thermal sea breeze that blows every day at 10 to 15 knots, sometimes up to 20 knots in the afternoon. It comes from the southeast in a side-on direction, consistent and moderate, perfect for progressing without stress.

This daily pattern makes Playa de Muro a reliable spot, with wind present on 90% of days during the high season.

Climat

The Mediterranean climate of Mallorca offers hot summers with temperatures around 30°C in the air and 25-28°C in the water from May to October. Winter is mild but cooler, around 15°C, with a wetsuit required.

The optimal season runs from April to October, with over 90% of windy days thanks to the embat. The spot is usable year-round, but the summer months are the most pleasant for the constant warmth.

Profondeur

The depth is gradual with a clean sandy bottom. You can stand up to 50-100m from the shore, perfect for waterstarts.

Température de l’eau

In summer, the water reaches 25-28°C from June to September, a shorty or lycra is sufficient. In spring and autumn, expect 18-22°C; winter around 15°C with a 5/3mm wetsuit.
