The Platja Muro spot mainly works with an onshore wind coming from the NE, thanks to the famous thermal embat that rises every day between 12 PM and 6 PM from April to October. This moderate sea breeze, often between 10 and 15 knots, rises to 20-25 knots in the afternoon, perfect for riding in the bay of Alcúdia.
Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, but the space for takeoff is a bit narrow, so you need to get out quickly to avoid the crowd. The first 50 meters are in shallow water where you can stand, ideal for beginners wanting to waterstart. Then, the navigation area opens wide in the bay, with a dedicated channel to go into deep water via inflatable boat if needed.
The water surface is generally flat to chop with few waves in light wind, and a bit more choppy when the wind picks up. Be cautious of swimmers in high season, stay in the authorized kite zone for a smooth ride.
Ideal conditions are a NE embat of 15-25 knots, stable and thermal, for smooth sessions from morning to late afternoon.
The water surface is typically flat to chop with small waves in light onshore wind. The bay is wide and shallow near the edge, providing good space to maneuver.
Currents are generally weak in the bay of Alcúdia. Tides have little impact on sailing conditions, but always check the schedules for safety.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12m² in moderate embat, 7-9m² when it picks up to 20+ knots, and up to 13-15m² in light wind sessions.
The prevailing wind is the embat, a thermal breeze NE onshore that blows on 90% of days from April to October, averaging 10-15 knots, rising to 20-25 knots in the afternoon. In winter, stronger frontal winds from the N-NE may arrive.
The Mediterranean climate of Mallorca offers hot summers with air temperatures around 30°C and water at 28°C in July-August. The main season runs from May to October, but it is feasible year-round with a wetsuit in winter.
Spring and autumn are windier, while winter requires a thick wetsuit for stronger frontal sessions.
The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom. You can stand in the first 50 meters, then it drops to deep water in the bay.
In summer (June-August), the water is at 24-28°C, boardshorts are sufficient. May-June and September-October require a 2mm shorty. Winter: full wetsuit essential below 18°C.
