The spot of Es Barcarés in Mallorca benefits from a mainly onshore wind coming from the north or northwest, creating a stable and calm water state. The launch is directly from the sandy beach, which is quite narrow, so you need to hurry to get out after takeoff to leave space for others. The navigation area extends over a large bay with a standing area in the first 50 meters, perfect for waterstarts and jibes.
Takeoff is done on the beach, be careful to choose a clear space as the setup area is limited. Once on the water, the water state is flat to light chop depending on the wind strength, with few waves even in strong winds. The best areas are in the center of the bay to avoid crowded edges with swimmers in season. Tides have little impact here, but always check the timings for the beach.
Local feature: the spot is sheltered by the bay of Pollença, making the wind stable and gradual, ideal for freestyle or foil. Schools like Kite Mallorca offer rentals and lessons on-site, with recent gear.
Ideal conditions are an onshore N-NW wind between 12 and 18 knots, with a flat water state for freestyle or learning. Avoid days that are too light under 8 knots.
The water state is generally flat with a slight chop in moderate wind. Waves remain small, even onshore, thanks to the protection of the bay.
The currents are weak in the sheltered bay of Es Barcarés. Mediterranean tides are minimal, with little amplitude, so there are no major changes on the beach or in the water.
However, be cautious near the points of the bay where the current can accelerate slightly in strong winds.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12 m² in typical conditions. For light days, go up to 13-15 m², and 7-9 m² when it picks up.
The dominant wind regime comes from the north (N) and northwest (NW), often onshore with average strengths of 10-20 knots. There is no specific local name like the Tramontane, but it is reliable especially in spring and autumn.
The wind gradually picks up in the morning and remains stable, perfect for long sessions without excessive gusts.
