Platja de s’Arenal
Espagne · Balearic Islands
The beach of Platja de s’Arenal, located in the bay of Palma in Mallorca, is a long stretch of fine sand that extends for several kilometers between Can Pastilla and Arenal. It is a popular spot for kiters due to its shallow water and easy access from Palma by car, bus, or bike. In summer, it is lively with tourists and party-goers, but it calms down in winter when the umbrellas are stored away, making room for the locals.
The spot offers a relaxed setting with a palm-lined promenade, bars, and restaurants. Behind the breakwater, the water remains flat during southwest winds, ideal for progression. Kitesurfing schools like Olli’s Kite School operate here, especially in autumn and winter for beginners.
Close to the airport, it is a convenient choice for travelers, although the atmosphere changes with the season: festive in summer, calmer and windier in winter.

The best winds come from SW, WSW, W, and WNW, oriented side-on to side-off relative to the south-facing beach. With a south wind at Can Pastilla, the area is perfect for beginners due to its flat and shallow water. If the wind shifts to the west, schools move their mobile base to Palma Aquarium. In north wind, you navigate towards Arenal port.
Launching is easy on the sand, with standing water up to 10-50 meters from the shore. The launch area is on the wide beach, but care must be taken with swimmers in summer. Navigation focuses behind the breakwater for pure flat water, or further out for small waves. Tides have little impact, and the spot remains navigable at all hours.
In winter and autumn, conditions are consistent for learning, with enough space for freeride and first jibes. Locals frequent the spot when tourists leave.
