The spot of Birgi Vecchi works in the lagoon of Lo Stagnone, with a water surface generally flat to very slightly choppy depending on the wind. The wind most often arrives in side-shore or side-on depending on the orientation of the flow on the west coast of Sicily, making it a reassuring spot for navigation and learning. The launch is done directly from the edge of the lagoon, on a shallow sandy area, with plenty of space to rig and take off.
The water surface is wide, shallow, and fairly uniform, allowing for navigation far from the shore without quickly getting into a complicated situation. The lagoon is particularly suitable for beginners and progressing riders, as one can often stand for a long distance and the terrain does not generate waves. However, one must keep an eye on the traffic areas near the schools, wings on the ground, and busier passages during peak hours.
The spot remains easier and cleaner when the wind is stable, with a regular flow coming from the west or northwest. As in many shallow lagoons, the water surface can become more rideable and more formed if the wind picks up, but it remains far from a wave spot. The conditions are ideal for working on water starts, first jumps, and relaxed freeriding.
