Mazara del Vallo

Capo Feto, located near Mazara del Vallo in western Sicily, is a protected nature reserve that spans approximately 453 hectares of sandy dunes. It is a beautiful spot where the beauty of the natural landscape combines with exceptional conditions for kitesurfing. The beach offers fine white sand with crystal clear waters in Caribbean colors, surrounded by wetlands and small ponds typical of this coastal region.

What makes Capo Feto strong is its accessibility for all levels. The flat and transparent waters make it an ideal place to learn, while the variations of the gulf and the possibilities to explore different areas allow more experienced riders to progress. The area is accessible year-round, making it a reliable destination for kitesurfers seeking consistent conditions and a preserved natural setting.

Location

Detailed information

Capo Feto benefits from very stable conditions due to its particular geography. The dominant wind is the maestral, blowing from the northwest, which creates a side-shore to side-off orientation ideal for most riders. The coastal secca fascia (shallow area) remarkably flattens the water even in strong wind conditions, creating an exceptionally smooth water surface.

For launching and navigation, the beach is long and spacious, allowing for easy takeoff. You can stand during the first 100 meters from the shore, which is perfect for beginners learning takeoff maneuvers and board recovery. With the scirocco (southeast wind), it is possible to head towards the end of the gulf, towards Cala Spaghetti, for about 1.5 km, where conditions become more engaging with larger waves. However, be cautious of rocks and breakwaters that are exposed at this end of the gulf.

The spot is divided into several areas with inlets and small gulfs, offering variety depending on conditions and level. Access is via a dirt path of about 10 minutes, passable with any vehicle.

Risks & Safety

  • Rocks and breakwaters are exposed in the northern area and at the end of the gulf towards Cala Spaghetti, which should be avoided at all costs.

  • The access path is an unpaved dirt trail, to be walked for the last 10 minutes, and there are no structures on the beach, so you need to organize for water and equipment.

  • Although the spot is accessible year-round, optimal conditions are found during the summer season and periods of regular maestral.

  • The protected nature reserve must be respected, and it is advisable to stay within the authorized areas for kitesurfing.
