The Stagnone lagoon works with all wind directions, from south to northwest, thanks to its irregular shape. The main spot is oriented west, perfect for a side-on or side-shore wind from the NW or W. Launching is easy everywhere, often on sand, and you can set up the kite standing in shallow water.
The water surface is ultra-flat in the lagoon, ideal for freestyle and beginners, with an average depth of 1 meter. At low tide, sea grass appears but remains slippery; at high tide, more fluidity. The navigation areas extend for miles: upwind to the north for calm, downwind to the south more crowded in high season.
Launching is done from the schools or the edges, with plenty of space. Local feature: you can walk everywhere to retrieve, no need for a safety boat, and downwinders to San Teodoro lead to waves in open sea via a narrow channel.
The ideal conditions are a wind of 10-25 knots from the NW or W, side-shore at the main spot. Flat water at high tide for maximum freestyle.
The water is ultra-flat and shallow, with a muddy or grassy bottom that cushions falls. No shorebreak or waves in the lagoon, perfect for a smooth water surface. Outside, at sea, there are small waves.
The current is weak in the lagoon, open to the sea at only two points. Beware of the narrow channels where it can accelerate, especially to the north. Tides have little influence on navigation but change the depth.
Choose kite sizes from 9 to 12 m² in medium wind, 7 to 9 m² when it picks up, and 12 to 15 m² in light wind. Adjust according to your weight and the reliable local wind.
The wind is constant and reliable, often side-shore from the NW or W in the afternoon. It picks up strength with good performance, reaching ideal speeds for kiting. No specific local name, but the region is windy due to its west exposure in Sicily.
The Mediterranean climate offers pleasant temperatures year-round, with more than 300 days of wind. The ideal seasons run from March to October, warm and dry, while winter is mild around 15°C. Summer is perfect for long sessions under the sun.
The average depth is 1 meter, up to 1.5 m maximum, with a sandy, muddy, or grassy bottom. You can stand everywhere, ideal for learning and getting back up.
