Capo D'Orlando
The East beach of Capo d'Orlando, on the Tyrrhenian coast in Sicily, is a large stretch of sand located about fifty kilometers from Milazzo. It is a popular spot among locals for its freedom to navigate and clear water, with coves and inlets that protect from strong winds. The atmosphere is relaxed, ideal for progressing in freeride or testing starts.
Open to the east, it offers varied conditions depending on the season, from flat water in summer to waves in winter. The beach is wide, making access easy, and the absence of obstacles makes it a safe choice for calm sessions.

Informations utiles
This spot is primarily oriented east, perfect for side-on or side-shore winds coming from the east like levante or scirocco. The launch is directly from the sandy beach, with no obstructive rocks, and the take-off area is spacious on the eastern part of the cape. In summer, the water surface is flat to chop with thermal winds, ideal for freeride and slalom over a large area without limits. Winter brings wave conditions with waves of 1 to 3 meters, navigable right or left depending on the swell. Navigation extends several hundred meters offshore, with shallow water near the shore in the inlets. Watch out for swimmers in high season on the beach, but there is enough space to stay offshore. No major tide influence, the spot works all year round.
Ideal conditions are with winds E to SE (10-25 knots) for flat freeride, or W-NW (20-30 knots) for wave. Current score is 37/100 with 24.4 kts, navigable but not optimal.
The water surface varies from flat in summer with east winds to chop or small waves in thermal conditions. In winter, waves reach 1-3 meters with Maestrale or Ponente, forming a good shorebreak in the coves. The water remains shallow near the shore, up to 50-100m.
Currents are generally weak along the coast, with no marked channels. The tide is independent and does not impact navigation, with minimal amplitude in the Mediterranean.
Opt for sizes 9-11m² in summer with light winds, 7-9m² in winter for power on waves, and 10-12m² in moderate winds.
The prevailing winds are Maestrale (NW), Ponente (W), and Scirocco (SE), with average strengths of 20-30 knots in winter. In summer, thermal east winds rise in the afternoon, lighter around 15-20 knots. The spot responds well to steady winds without excessive gusts.
The Mediterranean climate of the region offers mild temperatures, with hot summers around 25-30°C and mild winters around 10-15°C. The rainy season is short in autumn, but the spot remains navigable 365 days a year thanks to the shelter of the cape.
The depth is gradual with a pure sandy bottom. You can stand in the inlets up to 50-100m from the shore, perfect for beginners.
The water is warm in summer at 22-26°C, 16-20°C in winter. Shorty wetsuit in the warm season, full wetsuit in winter.
