Safety Bay
Tern Point Beach, in Safety Bay, Western Australia, is a popular spot for kiters due to its easy access from Perth, about 45 minutes by car. It overlooks a sheltered bay with a sandbar that separates two distinct riding areas.
On the sheltered side, called The Pond, the water is perfectly flat, ideal for freestyle, while the ocean area is better suited for beginners with its shallow water. The spot attracts a lot of people in season, especially pros and locals.
Despite its reassuring name, Safety Bay can be crowded, and water quality issues sometimes arise, such as recent closures due to bacteria.

Detailed information
The Safety Bay spot offers two main areas separated by a 2-meter high sandbar. On the inside, The Pond features a super flat water surface perfect for freestyle and wakestyle, with side-on winds thanks to the regular sea breeze. Tides do not significantly affect the area, allowing for all-day riding.
On the ocean side, the water is flat with a little chop, ideal for schools and beginner to intermediate riders. The launch area is on a sandy beach with a large shallow zone up to waist-deep, and a sandbar that allows walking far out to relaunch. Beginners are not allowed in The Pond due to heavy traffic and freestyle carousels upstream.
The launch zone is easy, with parking at the yacht club or on the street, but respect etiquette: windsurfing zone downstream, freestyle carousels upstream, and avoid jumps if riders are coming down. The spot is often very busy in summer, with pros training.
