Prevelly Surfers Point, in Margaret River, Western Australia, is a legendary spot known for its powerful waves and surf atmosphere. It is a popular place for experienced riders who come to charge the breaks against a backdrop of spectacular red cliffs.
The spot is located just south of the mouth of the Margaret River, with a narrow beach lined with rocks. Locals dominate the area, and the atmosphere is electric when the conditions are right.
Not really a place for beginners, but a paradise for those who love committed wave riding.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The main wind is the Fremantle Doctor, a west to southwest wind that rises in the afternoon and blows steadily between 18 and 25 knots. It is a side-on to side-shore wind relative to the southwest-facing beach, perfect for riding waves without too much chop. In the high season from October to March, you can count on almost daily wind.
The riding area is centered around the three main breaks: Main Break, Boat Ramp Reef, and The Bombie. The launch is from a narrow sandy beach with rocks, often needing a helper for takeoff as it is technical and exposed. Stay on clean wave areas, avoid the surfer lineup when they paddle.
The water state is choppy with big waves, tides have little influence but always check the exposed reefs. WSW swells provide the best sessions, with long walls and heavy drops. Watch for wind changes from SW to SE in the late afternoon.
