Conditions de navigation

Bredene offers very varied conditions depending on the tides and winds. The spot mainly receives winds from the west to northwest (W, NW, SW, WSW), which come in side-shore to side-on relative to the north-south oriented beach. These wind directions are ideal for safe navigation.

At low tide, the beach widens considerably, offering a very flat water surface with choppy areas and shallow bottoms perfect for learning. At high tide, the beach narrows to about 60 meters in width, but the water surface remains accessible with small to medium waves when the wind strengthens. The navigation area extends 350 meters in length, providing ample space for riders.

The spot has a well-defined launch and landing area with very soft sand and no obstacles. It is important to respect the monitored swimming zones and local regulations regarding guided kites. When the wind comes from the northwest, the navigation area may be slightly reduced but remains navigable.

The water surface in Bredene is characterized by very flat to choppy conditions depending on the tides and winds. At low tide, the spot offers a very flat water surface with shallow areas, ideal for learning and tricks. Courants marins

The current in Bredene is generally weak to moderate, making the spot relatively safe for navigation. However, one must remain vigilant near the natural channels where the current can intensify locally. The tide plays an important role in the dynamics of the water body, with a significant tidal range that transforms conditions between low and high tide.

Taille de kite recommandée

The recommended kite sizes in Bredene vary according to wind conditions and rider weight. For light to moderate winds (10-15 knots), a kite of 13 to 17 m² is appropriate. For moderate to strong winds (15-20 knots), a kite of 9 to 12 m² offers good control and power.

Beginner riders will benefit from a versatile kite of 12 to 14 m² that works well in most conditions of the spot. In winter, when winds can be stronger, a smaller kite of 9 to 11 m² may be necessary.
