The spot at Groenendijk offers a large area for launching and landing due to its gigantic sandy beach. The ideal wind orientation is cross-shore from the NE, with a main wind coming from the SW in venturi mode. The water surface varies with the tides: at low tide, there is flat and shallow water perfect for beginners, while at high tide, it becomes more choppy with small irregular waves up to 1.5 m, especially with NW wind.
The navigation area is wide, but stay away from swimmers. Easy launch on sand without obstacles. The spot is crowded on weekends, with fewer people during the week. Instant access, spacious parking, and public transport Kusttram for moving in a wetsuit.
Local feature: huge tidal difference typical of the North Sea, and presence of rescue and lifeguards on-site thanks to the surf club Windekind.
Ideal conditions with NE cross-shore moderate to strong wind, for a clean water surface at low tide or moderate waves at high tide.
Water surface is flat and shallow at low tide, evolving into chop and small waves up to 1.5 m at high tide, especially with NW wind. The bottom is entirely sandy, clean, and free of rocks.
The current is present and can be strong, so stay vigilant. There is no strong dependence on tides for navigation, but they significantly influence the water surface.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12 m² in typical conditions, smaller in strong wind and larger in light wind.
The wind regime is consistent due to the local venturi effect. Main direction is SW, with the best sessions in NE cross-shore. Variable but steady strength in season, particularly in the afternoon.
