Fort de Borj El Kastil is a kitesurfing spot located on the southeast coast of the island of Djerba, Tunisia. This historic site offers a unique experience combining kitesurfing with the discovery of a 14th-century fort built by the Aragonese. The spot is about 3 kilometers from the DjerbaKite nautical base and benefits from a shallow lagoon with crystal clear water.
The area is characterized by a remarkable natural setting with the presence of flamingos and seabirds by the lagoon. It is a relatively isolated and authentic place, away from tourist hustle, attracting kiters in search of adventure and different sensations. Access is usually by sea or by buggy from the beach, adding an exploration dimension to the kitesurfing session.

The water surface is essentially flat with shallow water, ideal for progressing safely. The lagoon offers a very large navigation space with 32 square kilometers of playground.
Launching is done from the white sandy beach, and the take-off area is very spacious. The spot features a gradual sandy bottom allowing beginners to start with their feet in the water. Conditions remain stable throughout the day thanks to the natural protection of the lagoon. With a good swell, waves can reach up to 2 meters high, providing opportunities for intermediate and advanced riders.
Ideal conditions occur with a wind of 15 to 20 knots from the northeast or east. These conditions allow for smooth and safe navigation for all levels. A side-shore to side-on wind is optimal to maximize safety and performance. Afternoons generally offer the best conditions due to thermal wind reinforcement.
The water surface is essentially flat with smooth and shallow water. With a good swell, small to medium waves can reach 2 meters. The water is warm and crystal clear, offering excellent visibility. The lagoon is well protected from large ocean swells, maintaining relatively mild conditions even in moderate winds.
The current in the lagoon is generally weak to moderate. However, care should be taken in channel areas where the current can be stronger. Tides slightly influence conditions, but the lagoon remains navigable at all tides. It is recommended to be well acquainted with the local topography before venturing too far from the shore.
With an average wind of 15 to 20 knots, the recommended kite sizes vary according to the rider's weight and the day's conditions. For a wind of 15 knots, a kite of 12 to 14 square meters is appropriate. With a wind of 20 knots, a kite of 9 to 11 square meters offers a good compromise. Lighter riders can opt for slightly smaller sizes, while heavier riders will prefer larger kites.

You can stand for a long distance from the beach, allowing for gradual progression to deeper areas. This feature makes the spot particularly suitable for learning and progression.
The water in the lagoon is warm year-round. In winter, the temperature reaches around 15°C, requiring a light wetsuit. In spring and autumn, it ranges between 18 and 24°C. In summer, the water warms up to 26°C, allowing for practice in shorts and lycra. These pleasant temperatures make the spot accessible even in the low season.
