The Seguia lagoon offers very flat and shallow conditions, typical of the lagoons in Djerba. The dominant wind comes from the northeast, with a generally side-onshore orientation relative to the launch area. The water surface remains extremely calm, even with wind, making it an ideal place to progress in freestyle and wakestyle.

Launching takes place on a fine sandy beach with plenty of space for takeoff and landing. The navigation area is very vast and uncluttered, with rarely more than a few dozen riders across the entire lagoon. The bottom is sandy and muddy, with no major obstacles like rocks or corals.

At low tide, the water becomes extremely shallow, which can make navigation tricky. At high tide, conditions improve slightly with a bit more depth. The thermal wind can be difficult to predict accurately from day to day, it is recommended to consult local schools for up-to-date information.

The ideal conditions for riding at Seguia are between 15 and 25 knots of wind from the northeast. At this strength, the water surface remains flat while providing enough power to progress and have fun. The side-onshore wind allows for good safety with a natural drift towards the beach.

Days with 20-25 knots offer the best conditions for all levels, with a good balance between power and control. Beginners generally prefer slightly lower conditions, around 12-18 knots, to learn safely.

État de la mer

The water surface of the Seguia lagoon is extremely flat and calm, even with wind. This is one of the main features that make it an ideal spot for beginners and freestylers. The water remains smooth as a mirror most of the time, with only a slight ripple during stronger winds.

During very low wind conditions and low tide, there may be an increase in algae floating on the surface. These algae can cling to the kite lines and make relaunching difficult, especially for beginners who frequently fall. However, this phenomenon usually does not occur during strong winds above 20 knots, which push the algae offshore.

Courants marins

Currents in the Seguia lagoon are generally weak due to the closed and shallow nature of the lagoon. The lagoon is separated from the open ocean by a strip of land, which significantly limits ocean currents. Tides have a limited effect on conditions, but it is recommended to check local tide schedules before heading out, as they can affect water depth.

At low tide, the water can become extremely shallow, making navigation more challenging. At high tide, conditions improve with a bit more navigable space.

Taille de kite recommandée

For average winds of 15-20 knots, the recommended sizes vary according to the rider's weight and riding style. Beginners and lighter riders should opt for kites of 11 to 13 meters to benefit from more power and control. Intermediate and heavier riders will prefer kites of 9 to 11 meters for more maneuverability.

On windier days with 25-30 knots, sizes reduce to 7 to 9 meters. For calm days with 12-15 knots, a kite of 12 to 14 meters may be necessary. It is recommended to have at least two kite sizes to cover the variability of thermal wind.

Météo & vent

The wind regime at Seguia is dominated by regular thermal winds coming from the northeast. These winds are generated by temperature differences between land and sea, making them relatively stable but sometimes difficult to predict accurately. The average wind strength ranges between 12 and 20 knots, with gusts reaching up to 30 knots on particularly windy days.

The best months for wind are April, December, February, January, June, March, May, November, and October, with a wind score of 53/100. The current observed wind is 20.4 knots, providing solid riding conditions. The strongest winds are generally observed between November and March, while summer can sometimes present calmer days.

Climat

Djerba enjoys a warm and sunny Mediterranean climate for most of the year. Air temperatures range from 15°C in winter to 29°C in summer. The hottest months are July and August, with temperatures regularly exceeding 28-29°C. Spring and autumn offer pleasant conditions with temperatures between 19-25°C.

Winters are mild, with temperatures rarely below 15°C. The island enjoys abundant sunshine year-round, making it an ideal destination for long sessions. Rainfall is rare and mainly concentrated in winter.

Profondeur

The Seguia lagoon is characterized by an extremely shallow and gradual depth. The bottom is sandy and muddy, with no major obstacles like rocks or corals. You can generally stand for a very long distance from the beach.

At high tide, the depth can reach 2 to 3 meters maximum in the center of the lagoon. At low tide, the water becomes extremely shallow, sometimes only 0.5 to 1 meter, making navigation tricky and increasing the risk of falling. This very shallow depth is both an advantage for the safety of beginners and a constraint for navigation.

Température de l’eau

The water temperature at Seguia varies significantly with the season. In winter (December to February), the water is around 15-16°C, requiring a thick wetsuit. In spring (March to May), the temperature gradually rises from 16 to 18°C, allowing for a thin wetsuit or shorty.

In summer (June to August), the water reaches its maximum temperatures of 21 to 26°C, allowing for riding in shorts and sun protection or with a light shorty. In the autumn (September to November), the temperature gradually drops from 26 to 20°C, requiring again a shorty or thin wetsuit.
