Lagune Souk el Ghebli (Kite Club Spot)
Tunisie · Médenine
The Souk el Ghebli lagoon, located on the southeast coast of the island of Djerba in Tunisia, is one of the largest flat kitesurfing spots in North Africa. This exceptional lagoon spans 30 to 40 square kilometers, offering almost unlimited space to progress and ride freely. The spot benefits from shallow and ultra-flat water, ideal for all levels, from beginners to advanced riders.
Access to the spot is easy from the village of Midoun, near the Roemerdam dam that connects the island to the mainland. Several kitesurfing schools, including the famous Kitesurf Les Dauphins, have established their bases there. The spot combines Tunisian authenticity with a well-developed tourist infrastructure, making it a popular destination for European riders seeking quality flatwater at an affordable price.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The Souk el Ghebli lagoon offers ultra flat and navigable conditions in practically all winds. The prevailing wind regime comes from the northwest and west, creating side-shore to side-on conditions that are particularly favorable. The water surface remains extremely flat regardless of the tide, with a maximum depth of 1.50 meters, which virtually eliminates all risks related to strong currents or significant variations in conditions.
Launching takes place on a hard and compact sand beach, ideal for takeoff and landing. Free self-launching access is possible on the public beach, while schools offer paid access areas with additional services. The lagoon has huge areas of hard sand perfectly suited for kitebuggying, with several square kilometers available. Riders should remain vigilant regarding fishing nets that may be present and the local fishing boats that circulate regularly. Navigation is possible in practically all directions due to the vastness of the water surface.
