Informations utiles
The beach of Sidi Daoud is oriented east-southeast, which favors side-on to side-shore winds coming from the northwest or north, the most effective for riding in the lagoon. The water surface is ultra-flat thanks to natural protection, perfect for jumps and freestyle, even in light winds.
Entry is directly from the wide sandy beach, with a clear takeoff area on the adjacent grassy space. The main navigation area is the central lagoon, about 1 km wide, where you can ride safely up to 2 km offshore in strong winds.
Be cautious on days with onshore winds from the southeast that can create chop in the lagoon, but overall conditions remain consistent with a wind score of 79/100. The best months cover the entire year, but the peak is from March to October with reliable thermal winds.
Ideal conditions are winds of 15-25 knots from the northwest side-on, providing a perfect flat water surface for long sessions without fatigue.
The water surface is generally flat to light chop in the lagoon, with small waves (less than 1m) on the outer beach in strong winds. Ideal for all levels in sideshore conditions.
Currents are weak in the lagoon due to its protection, but can intensify near the outer passes during rising tides. Tides in the Mediterranean are low amplitude (less than 50 cm), with no major impact on navigation.
Opt for kite sizes of 9 to 12 m² in typical conditions of 15-20 knots, and 7-9 m² in strong winds over 25 knots.
The prevailing winds are thermal from the northwest in the afternoon, reaching 15-25 knots on average during the season. There is no specific local name, but it is often referred to as the "Cap Bon wind" which is reliable in summer.
The current forecasted strength is exceptional at 262 kts, but typically it is 15-25 kts consistent in the lagoon.
The Mediterranean climate of the Nabeul region offers pleasant temperatures year-round, with averages of 15-20°C in winter and 25-32°C in summer. Mild winters and hot summers make it a navigable spot for 12 months.
The dry season dominates from May to October, ideal for kitesurfing without thick neoprene.
The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom in the lagoon. You can stand up to about 100-150 m from the shore, perfect for beginners.
