The beach of Aguieira, located at O Porto do Son in the Ría de Muros e Noia in Galicia, is a beautiful stretch of Atlantic sand bordered by calm ria waters. This spot attracts families and beach lovers for its preserved natural setting and proximity to the village.
Surrounded by lush hills, it offers easy access from the coastal road, with chalets and rentals right by the water. It's a quiet place, away from the crowds of the large Galician resorts.
For riders, it's a little-known spot that deserves to be explored when the wind settles in the region.

flatThe beach of Aguieira faces west towards the entrance of the Ría de Muros e Noia, which favors side-on or side-shore winds coming from the NW or W, typical of Atlantic Galicia. The launch is done directly from the fine, wide sand without obstacles, with a clear take-off area on the beach.
The water surface generally remains flat to chop inside the ria, protected from large ocean swells, but can become choppy in strong wind near the entrance. Navigation is possible over 200-300m in width, staying clear of the central channel to avoid occasional boat traffic areas.
The tides have little influence on navigability due to the constant depth of the ria, but at low tide, the shore remains passable. Watch out for local fishermen and swimmers during the summer season.
Ideal conditions with side-shore NW or W winds between 15-25 kts, for a smooth and consistent water surface. Avoid pure onshore which generates chop.
The water surface is flat in light winds, evolving into moderate chop with sustained wind. Natural protection from the ria against waves, but small waves (0.5-1m) possible from swell W or onshore wind.
Ideal for freestyle and freeride.
The currents are weak to moderate in the ria, influenced by the semi-diurnal tides with an amplitude of 3-5m. More pronounced in the central channel leading to the ocean, where they can reach 1-2 knots when outgoing or incoming.
Staying close to the beach minimizes risks.
For typical sessions at 15-25 kts, opt for sizes 9 to 12m². In strong wind (>25 kts), go down to 7-9m².
The prevailing winds in the region come from the NW and W, strengthened by Atlantic depressions. They are thermal during the day in summer, regularly reaching 15-25 kts, and more sustained in winter with sessions at 26 kts or more.

The Galician climate is oceanic, with mild temperatures year-round: around 13-17°C in winter and spring, rising to 20-25°C in summer. Rainfall is frequent, especially in autumn and winter, but sunny days are common in spring.
The best months for kitesurfing correspond to the windy seasons, with a variable but often favorable wind score from March to October.
Progressive depth from the shore with a clean sandy bottom. You can stand on the first 20-30m, then it drops quickly to 5-10m in the ria.
The water temperature remains cool: 13-14°C in winter, 14-17°C in spring and autumn, rising to a maximum of 17-20°C in summer. A 5/3 wetsuit is recommended year-round.
