Spiaggia Sa Petra Ruja, located in La Caletta in Sardinia, is a long white sand beach bordered by a pine forest that offers some welcome shade. It is a popular spot for kiters due to its generous space and crystal-clear water. Two kitesurfing schools are established here, making it a lively place for enthusiasts.
The beach stretches for several kilometers with a gradual entry into the water, ideal for families and beginners in kiting. It is easily accessible by a road, although it is in poor condition, with paid parking on site.

The navigation area is wide due to the length of the beach, with easy launching on the sand without major obstacles. Schools like Active Kite Sardinia and Kitesurf La Caletta delineate a dedicated kite zone at the end of the beach, away from swimmers for added safety.
Launching takes place directly on the spacious beach, and the space allows for freestyle or freeride sessions without congestion, even in high season. Be cautious of seaweed that may accumulate in the morning but often clears by late afternoon. The water surface is generally flat to chop depending on wind strength, perfect for progression.
Ideal conditions are a side-shore wind from the east or northeast between 15 and 25 knots, for a clean and manageable water surface.
The water is clear with a sandy bottom, and the water surface remains calm to moderately choppy under side-shore wind. Light waves may form with strong east winds.
Currents are generally weak on this beach exposed to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Tides have a moderate range, with no major impact on kiting navigation.
Opt for kite sizes of 9 to 12 m² in medium thermal wind, and 7 to 9 m² when it picks up.
The prevailing wind is the thermal wind from the east or northeast, which picks up in the afternoon during the summer season with speeds of 15-25 knots. It blows consistently along the coast, making the spot reliable from May to October.
The Mediterranean climate of the region offers warm summers with temperatures around 25-30°C from June to September, and mild winters around 10-15°C. Sardinia enjoys generous sunshine year-round, with rare rainfall in summer.
