Paros

Paralia Chrisi Akti, on the east coast of Paros, is one of the most well-known spots on the island for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The beach offers a simple and straightforward setting, with sand and a large navigation area when the wind is established.

It is a spot particularly appreciated for its consistent wind and easy-to-read conditions in season. In kitesurfing, it is, however, more exposed to chop and gusts than other more sheltered areas of the island, making it more interesting for riders who are already comfortable in the Greek wind.

The available feedback classifies it more as a summer practice spot than as a true quiet progression beach, with conditions often more physical when the Meltemi sets in. The spot is also known for its beach atmosphere and easy access from the Golden Beach area.

Location

Detailed information

The spot mainly works with wind from the N to NW sector in season, with an orientation often side-on to side-shore depending on the angle of the Meltemi and the exact line of the beach. Available sources indicate that Golden Beach, or Chrisi Akti, is a well-known kitesurfing spot on Paros, but several reports mention very choppy and gusty conditions for kitesurfing, which requires a good level of piloting.

The water surface is generally cleaner near the shore at the start, then it quickly transforms into short chop in the offshore area when the wind strengthens. Launching is done from the sandy beach, with a takeoff area to manage properly as the beach can be crowded in season and space quickly becomes tight.

The spot is more comfortable when the wind is stable and the beach is not overcrowded. In practice, it is advisable to favor a well-cleared navigation area facing offshore and to avoid the beach edges when swimmers, surfers, or windsurfers occupy the space.
