Plaža Varka
Grèce · South Aegean
Varka beach, located on the island of Naxos in the Greek Cyclades, is a kitesurfing spot still little known to the crowds. It offers a long stretch of fine sand with often generous wind thanks to the Meltemi, making it an interesting choice for riders seeking quiet sessions. The environment is typical of the Greek islands, with turquoise waters and a preserved setting.
Close to more famous spots like Plaka or Mikri Vigla, Varka stands out for its open space and easy access from the coastal road. It is a place appreciated by locals for its simplicity and potential in side-onshore wind conditions.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The Varka spot works well with wind coming from the north or northeast, typical of the Meltemi, which arrives in side-onshore on the south-facing beach. The launch area is easy due to the sand with no apparent rocks at the edge, and the take-off area is wide over the 500 meters of beach. Navigation is mainly in front of the beach with a chop moderate water surface that can become smoother in light wind, ideal for freestyle or freeride. Be cautious of deeper areas offshore, and prefer the beach edge for beginners. No major influence from tides, but thermal wind strengthens in the afternoon in summer.
