Agios Georgios
Greece · Égée-Méridionale
Agios Georgios is a wide sandy beach located south of the capital of Naxos. It is a spot known for kitesurfing and windsurfing with centers offering lessons and equipment rental. The atmosphere is lively due to its proximity to the town and its crystal-clear waters.
The beach offers a mix of flat lagoon and more open areas with waves. A reef separates the lagoon where you can stand from the open sea, allowing for varied sessions depending on skill level.
It is a favored spot for riders due to its easy access and reliable wind in summer.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The main wind, the Meltemi, comes from the north and blows mainly in the afternoon, often between 4-5 Bft at first then up to 6-7 Bft during peak sessions, before dropping at sunset. It is a side-on wind relative to the east-facing beach, ideal for upwind riding and jumping. Launching is easy on the wide sandy beach, with a clear take-off area near schools like Flisvos or Thalasea.
The navigation area is divided by a reef that protects a flat lagoon with depth where you can stand, perfect for tricks and cautious beginners. Beyond the reef, there is moderate chop and small waves in open sea, suitable for intermediates and advanced riders. In case of strong wind, be cautious in the outer area where waves can grow. The water remains navigable all day but the best time is in the afternoon when the wind strengthens.
The schools on site facilitate access to the spot, and there is enough space even in high season to ride without too much crowd.
