The beach of Agiassos in Naxos, in the Greek Cyclades, is a popular spot for its fine sand and turquoise water. Located on the west coast of the island, it offers a pleasant setting with a medium-sized beach suitable for kitesurfing. Locals appreciate it for its relaxed atmosphere and conditions suitable for regular sessions.
It is a place that mainly attracts intermediates, but experts also find it enjoyable thanks to nice waves in strong winds. Access is easy from the main road, with nearby parking and few people outside of the high season.
In summer, the atmosphere is lively with local kite schools, but the spot remains large enough to ride without feeling cramped.

chopchopThe spot of Agiassos features a varied water surface with chop, small waves, and sometimes medium waves, ideal for progressing in freestyle or wave. The launch and landing area is of medium size, on an easily accessible sandy beach. In SW wind, it's perfect side-onshore that generates nice clean waves; otherwise, the water goes flat to choppy.
Launching is easy thanks to the fine sand, with no notable shorebreak. The navigation area extends several hundred meters offshore, with enough space to maneuver even if a few kiters are present. However, be cautious of crowded sessions in July-August. Conditions do not depend on tides, which simplifies planning outings.
Ideal conditions come from the SW at 18-25 knots, providing a side-on with clean waves and constant power. The local thermal enhances the wind in the afternoon.
The water alternates between chop, small and medium waves depending on wind strength. From SW, expect nice waves for strapless; otherwise, it's more flat to choppy for freeride. The beach is sandy with a good quick depth.
Currents are generally weak at this spot, with no major risks reported. No notable tidal influence, making navigation stable at any time.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 11m² in medium wind, 7-9m² when it picks up to over 20 knots. On light days, go for 12m².
The dominant wind is the Meltemi, a regular north thermal in summer, but here the SW is recommended and the most reliable for good sessions. It often blows 15-25 knots in season, with stronger gusts in the afternoon. The best months include July and August for its consistency, but April and June also offer nice days.
The Mediterranean climate of Naxos offers warm summers with temperatures around 25-35°C, perfect for riding in shorts. Winters are mild but cooler, around 10-15°C, requiring a wetsuit. The main season extends from May to September, with almost constant sunshine and little rain.
The depth is progressive with a sandy bottom. You can stand in the first meters, then it gets deep quickly.
In summer, the water reaches 22-26°C, shorts are sufficient. Winter around 16-18°C, a 4/3 wetsuit is recommended.
