Truzugal

The beach of Truzugal, located near Louannec in northern Brittany, is a small cove of sand and pebbles in the heart of the Pink Granite Coast. It is a quiet spot, not too crowded, with a somewhat steep access from the Truzugal parking lot. Locals appreciate this spot for its proximity to the town center and its typical rocky landscapes of the region.

Close to more well-known spots like Trestel or Trestraou, Truzugal offers a body of water that changes with the tides, showcasing beautiful colors at low tide. Fishing is often done here, and it is a preserved place where one can kitesurf out of season without too many people.

The wind is reliable due to the exposure of the Lannion region, one of the best Breton spots for kitesurfing all year round.

Location

Detailed information

The beach of Truzugal is oriented west-northwest, making it ideal for a side-on or side-shore wind coming from the northwest or west, typical of the Lannion region. At low tide, the water becomes a flat lagoon perfect for freestyle or learning, with a bottom that is largely exposed. At high tide, the launch area shrinks and the water turns to chop or small waves if the swell comes in from the ocean.

Launching is done directly from the sandy-pebble beach, easy out of season but watch out for pebbles at low tide. The navigation area extends offshore, while remaining vigilant about surrounding rocks and coastal currents. Schools like Trégor Kite operate in the area and recommend this spot for its wind stability compared to other more exposed beaches like Trestel. In summer, prioritize wingfoiling if kitesurfing is limited by crowds, but out of season, it is navigable 300 days a year if you manage the tides well.

Local peculiarity: the tide with its 12 meters of amplitude changes everything in a few hours, transforming the cove into a confined space at high tide. Always check the tide table and precise orientations, as the rugged coast offers stable winds from the southwest or northwest.

Risks & Safety

  • Rocks are exposed around the cove, especially at low tide, to be avoided when launching.
  • The launch area significantly reduces at high tide, making the spot technical.
  • Respect off-season kitesurfing rules, as summer is often reserved for wingfoiling or prohibited.
  • Be vigilant about currents near the granite points during spring tides.
