Trestel

Trestel beach, located in Trévou-Tréguignec on the Pink Granite Coast, is a large stretch of fine sand facing the bay and the Seven Islands. It is a popular spot for surfers, but also for kitesurfers and windsurfers when the wind picks up. The Trestel Surf Club offers courses and workshops all year round, with accessible facilities for easier water entry.

The beach attracts joggers, bathers, and sliding enthusiasts in a friendly atmosphere. In winter, conditions become ideal for kite with regular winds from Atlantic depressions. In summer, it is calmer, better for wingfoiling or moderate waves.

Surrounded by typical pink cliffs of the region, it offers a splendid view but remains wild out of season.

Location

Detailed information

Trestel beach is oriented west-southwest, making it perfect for a side-on or side-shore wind coming from the northwest or west, typical of Breton depressions. The water surface is often choppy with long and not too high waves, ideal for freestyle or wave riding when the swell comes in from the west. Water entry is directly from the fine sandy beach, wide for several hundred meters, but be cautious of the rocks that surround the spot at low tides.

Main navigation area offshore in the bay, avoiding swimming zones near the shore and surfers concentrated on the waves. Easy take-off on dry sand at low tide, but at high tide (coefficient >80), space reduces significantly and it is discouraged. Tides have a strong range (up to 12m in the region), transforming the water surface into a flat lagoon at low tide or a choppy area at high tide. Out of season (autumn-winter), it is navigable almost all day with stable side-on wind; in summer, prefer NE breezes in the afternoon for light wind.

Local feature: coexistence with surfers and foilers, respect dedicated zones. The spot is exposed to 360° but optimal in NW/W for a clean water surface without too strong side-off pushing offshore towards the islands.

Risks & Safety

  • The spot is strongly discouraged for beginners due to the rocks surrounding the beach.
  • Avoid high tide with a coefficient above 80, due to insufficient space on the sand.
  • Respect the surfing and swimming zones to coexist with other users.
  • Be cautious of seaweed on the beach and in the water during summer.
