Nantouar

The beach of Nantouar, located in Louannec in northern Brittany, is a vast stretch of sand facing the bay of Saint-Michel-en-Grève. It is a spot recommended for beginners, especially with northeast winds where the thermal sets in well during summer.

Access is a bit difficult but the beach remains wild and pleasant, with a calm atmosphere off-season. Kitesurfing mainly occurs at low tide, when the water becomes an ideal lagoon for progression.

Close to Lannion, it is a good fallback point in the Trégor region, with typical landscapes of the cut-out bay of Brittany.

Location

Detailed information

The spot works mainly at low tide, about 1 to 2 hours before and after low water, with less than 4 meters of water for kitesurfing. With northeast wind, it's perfect side-on for beginners, the wind is stable and thermal in the afternoon during summer. The launch is directly from the sandy beach, wide and easy to access despite sometimes technical starts depending on the tide.

The navigation area is protected by the bay, which gives a choppy water surface at mid-tide but flatter at low tide. The take-off is done at the water's edge, be careful to choose the east side of the beach for Nantouar. Significant tides (up to 12m of tidal range) completely transform the spot: at high tide, it's for windsurfing or wingfoiling beyond 3.5m, but kitesurfing below.

Beach orientation is west-southwest, so the NE is cross-shore side, ideal for riding straight. Avoid days with too strong southwest winds that can be onshore and make the water chaotic. A car is recommended as spots are isolated in the region.
