Tarnos

The Digue beach in Tarnos is the southernmost beach in the Landes, characterized by the presence of a dam that marks the border with the Basque Country. It is a vast sandy beach that stretches for several kilometers, offering a preserved natural setting and a rather tranquil atmosphere compared to the more touristy spots in the region.

The spot is appreciated by local kitesurfers for its accessibility and regular conditions. The area has a dedicated kitesurf launch zone in summer, making it an organized and safe spot. The atmosphere remains relaxed, away from the crowds, with good beach infrastructure in the summer season.

Location

Detailed information

Digue beach offers generally smooth and regular conditions for kitesurfing. The dominant wind blows from the east, creating offshore to side-shore conditions depending on seasonal variations. Under normal conditions, the water surface is flat to slightly choppy, ideal for progression and mastering technique.

Entry to the water is directly from the sandy beach, with no major obstacles. The official launch zone in summer is well defined and allows for safe practice. The spot works well at low and high tide, with a gradual depth that facilitates entry and exit. Be cautious of the shorebreak which can be pronounced during strong swells, and the current which may be present depending on weather conditions.
