Plage de la Gravière

The Gravière beach is located on the wild coast of Soorts-Hossegor, in the Landes. It is a slightly wilder and calmer beach than the central beach, with difficult access via paths designed to preserve the dune. It attracts families for its preserved nature and lifeguard presence during the season.
Right in front of a renowned surf spot with powerful waves, it offers a natural setting protected by the Coastal Conservatory. Free parking is available nearby, as well as bars and restaurants at Place des Landais.
Less frequented due to its restricted access, it is an ideal place to enjoy the Landes ocean without the crowd.

The Gravière beach is oriented west, making it ideal for side-on or side-shore winds coming from the northwest or west, typical of Atlantic depressions. The water state is generally choppy to wavy with powerful waves, especially in winter and autumn, and varies with the tides: more shore break at low tide, and a bit more space at high tide.
The kitesurfing navigation area is allowed to the north of the municipality, between the naturist beach and the Estagnots, at a minimum distance of 300 meters from swimming areas. A perpendicular access channel to the beach allows for safe launching. Avoid the summer period when practice is discouraged or regulated; prefer autumn-winter for weak thermal in summer.
Launching is done through the channel to avoid shore rolls, and the take-off area is downwind of the swimming zones, often near the Huchet current to gain speed on flat water. Be careful of rip currents and undertows that make the spot technical.
