The Playa del Trabucador is a long beach of 6.5 km located in the Delta del Ebro, in Sant Carles de la Ràpita in Catalonia. It is a wild and natural kitesurfing spot, perfect for riding on both sides of the beach, with a peaceful atmosphere surrounded by dunes and the biosphere reserve.
There are areas dedicated to beginners, where the water remains shallow over a long distance, making learning safe and easy. Kitesurfing schools are established here and offer courses year-round.
Close to Amposta, this spot attracts riders for its unrestricted navigation and its proximity to restaurants serving local rice and seafood.

flatThe Trabucador beach generally faces east-west, with a protected inner lagoon on the west side and open sea on the east side. The dominant south wind (S) from April to September comes offshore from the lagoon, creating a flat to light chop water surface ideal for beginners and progression. From October to March, the stronger north wind (N) comes onshore from the sea, suitable for experienced riders with a bit more possible waves.
Launching is easy on the sand, with designated areas for schools and beginners in the lagoon where you can stand for a long time. The launch area is wide and obstacle-free, you can ride freely on both sides but remain cautious near the rio Ebro which separates Trabucador from Riumar. No annual restrictions, free parking nearby, but no showers on site unlike Riumar.
The water surface varies little with the tides due to the shallow depth of the lagoon, but be careful near the small adjacent lagoons close to the mouth where the water does not exceed 1 m in places. Schools like Delta Kite or La Central del Kite manage the areas to avoid conflicts.
The ideal conditions are a south wind 15-20 knots offshore for perfect flat water, or north 20-25 knots for dynamic sessions. The whole year is suitable with a good score of 71/100.
The water surface is generally flat in the lagoon, with a sandy bottom and few waves, ideal for learning. On the open sea side, a light chop forms with strong wind, and small waves for surf-kiting with north or east winds.
Currents are weak or absent in the lagoon and on the beach, thanks to the calm waters of the delta. However, be cautious near the channel of the rio Ebro where the current can slightly accelerate during high or low tide.
Common sizes range from 6 to 12 m², with 9 m² being versatile for medium south wind, and 6-8 m² for strong north winter sessions.
The winds are consistent thanks to the bay of Als Alfacs, one of the best spots in Europe. From April to September, the south wind blows regularly at 12-20 knots, offshore and reliable. From October to March, the north wind rises to 18-30 knots, onshore and powerful, perfect for small kites.
The Mediterranean climate of the Delta del Ebro is mild year-round, with temperatures rarely below 8°C in winter and around 25-30°C in summer. Dry seasons dominate, favorable for kiting 12 months a year as indicated by the high score.
The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom, you can stand up to 50-100 m in the inner lagoon, ultra-safe for beginners.
In winter, the water is around 12-15°C, and rises to 22-25°C in summer. A 5/3 mm wetsuit is recommended in the cold season.
