San Giovanni Suergiu

Punta Trettu is a 700-meter sand spit that separates the Sardinian Sea from the Sant’Antioco lagoon, in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu. This spot is about 5 minutes from the Kite House Sardinia, in the Matzaccara area, and points directly towards the island of Sant’Antioco.

It is one of the best kitesurfing spots in Sardinia, if not in Europe, thanks to its consistent wind all year round and flat water. Riders come here for the friendly atmosphere and ideal conditions, with schools and services on site.

The spot is well organized, with areas dedicated to lessons and free practice, monitored by beach staff.

The spot at Punta Trettu offers a perfect orientation for all winds, making it a rare place on the southwestern coast of Sardinia. The East wind (Levante) comes directly into the bay and works wonderfully, making the spot rideable even in this direction. The West wind (Ponente) and Southwest wind (Libeccio) are excellent from spring to autumn, especially if the sky is clear, and the Maestrale (Northwest) is ideal for flat sessions.

The water surface is flat as a lake regardless of the tide, with very shallow and sandy bottoms, perfect for freestyle and learning. The launch area is easily accessible from the sandy beach, and the take-off zone is wide and reachable 10 minutes on foot from the parking lot. There are two distinct areas: one for beginner lessons near the shore, and a larger one for independent riders, separated by a sand spit.

Be careful of the deep navigation channel towards Sant’Antioco, where boats pass: kiting is prohibited and priority is given to boats. The water remains clear and flat, with few waves even in strong winds, and you can stand for a long time thanks to the shallow depths.

Vent ideal
NWdominant
Edominant
SE

Ideal conditions are with side-on wind of 15 to 30 knots from NW, E, or SE, for perfectly flat water and ample space.

État de la mer

The water is crystal clear and flat, with a sandy and very shallow bottom. There are few waves thanks to the protection of the bay, ideal for technical freestyle.

Courants marins

Currents are generally weak in the bay, but more pronounced in the deep natural channel that connects to Sant’Antioco. The tide does not significantly influence the spot, which remains suitable in all conditions.

Taille de kite recommandée

For typical winds of 12-40 knots, plan for sizes of 7 to 11m² depending on your weight and the day. 9-11m for moderate winds, 7-9m when it blows strong.

Météo & vent

The wind is consistent and reliable at Punta Trettu, with a high probability all year round of 12 to 40 knots. The main directions are Maestrale (NW), Scirocco (SE), and Levante (E), which come in side-on or side-shore into the bay. There is no specific local name beyond the classic Sardinian winds.

Climat

The Mediterranean climate of southwestern Sardinia is mild all year round, with air temperatures between 18 and 35°C from April to October. In winter, it is cooler but still suitable for kiting. The spot is windy with high annual frequency, all months are good according to weather data.

Profondeur

Les fonds sont très bas et sableux, on a pied jusqu’à plusieurs dizaines de mètres du bord. Profondeur progressive, idéale pour les chutes sans risque.

Température de l’eau

The water temperature ranges from 15°C in winter to 25°C in summer. Combined with the mild air, a shorty wetsuit is often sufficient outside the cold season.
