Fregene
Italie · Lazio
Fregene is a kitesurfing spot on the Tyrrhenian coast of Lazio, northwest of Rome. The main practice area is the Villaggio dei Pescatori, with its clean and spacious sandy beach. It is one of the few places around Rome where kitesurfing is allowed in the summer, thanks to a dedicated launch area.
The beach offers a pleasant setting with nice bars to the south, while the north remains quieter and less crowded. After the last kiosk, there is a space reserved for kiters to take off safely. Easily accessible from Fiumicino Airport, it is a convenient spot for a quick session.
The atmosphere is relaxed, popular with locals for its steady wind and proximity to the capital.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The spot faces west, ideal for winds from Maestrale (NW) and Ponente (W) which are side-shore or side-on. With these directions, the water is flat and the conditions are perfect for all levels. Winds from SE and NW also provide flat water with a sideshore wind.
The navigation area is wide, with easy access to the water on sand. Use the dedicated launch area after the last kiosk to avoid crowds to the south. To the north, it is more spacious and less populated. With SW, expect waves up to 2-2.5 m, making the spot more technical. Winds from E or N are offshore on flat water, but less stable.
No significant tide, the water remains navigable at all times. Thermal winds boost sessions in spring and summer almost every day.
