Pinetina Sud in Castiglione della Pescaia is a kitesurfing spot located in Tuscany, just a short walk from the historic center and the castle of Castiglione della Pescaia. The site benefits from a century-old pine forest that isolates the beach from the nearby provincial road, creating a protected and pleasant environment for kitesurfing.
It is an ideal spot for summer, particularly appreciated by freestylers and beginners. The beach is wide and long with no major obstacles, offering plenty of space for launching and maneuvers. The Castiglione Kite school, led by Carlo Politi, offers IKO certified courses and comprehensive services including equipment rental, sun loungers, and shaded areas.

The dominant wind is the Maestral, favored by thermals from March to October. The wind orientation is side-on with a right-hand turn, meaning the wind comes perpendicular to the beach with a slight side component. The water surface is generally very flat with small waves and chop depending on conditions. The launch and landing area benefits from a large area of soft sand, ideal for launching the kite. In summer, care should be taken due to the presence of tourists on the beach. The spot does not depend on tides, making it accessible at any time of the day.
The ideal conditions occur with a wind from west to northwest with an intensity of 15 to 20 knots. These conditions are particularly frequent from March to October due to summer thermals. The side-on wind allows for safe and enjoyable navigation across the entire width of the beach.
The water surface is characterized by very flat conditions with light chop. With a west wind, small to medium waves can form. With other wind directions, the water remains very flat and choppy. It is an excellent flat water spot, especially in summer, making it perfect for freestyle and learning.
Tide conditions do not have a significant impact on kitesurfing conditions in Castiglione della Pescaia. The general current is weak, making the spot safe and accessible for all levels of riders. No channels or dangerous currents have been reported in the main practice area.
For typical summer thermal conditions of 15 to 20 knots, kites of 9 to 11 meters are recommended for medium-weight riders. In case of lighter winds (13-15 knots), a kite of 12 to 14 meters may be necessary. For days with stronger winds (25-30 knots in autumn and spring), kites of 7 to 9 meters are more appropriate.
The wind regime is dominated by the Maestral, a northwest wind that blows regularly from March to October with an intensity between 13 and 20 knots. This wind is favored by summer thermals that create very predictable conditions. In autumn and spring, stronger northwest winds, reaching 25 to 30 knots, can also occur. The wind generally blows from west to northwest depending on weather conditions.
Castiglione della Pescaia enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate of Tuscany. In summer, temperatures are high and a wetsuit is not necessary. In winter, the water remains around 18°C, requiring a light wetsuit. The kitesurfing season mainly extends from April to October, during which the conditions are the most stable and pleasant.
The depth is gradual with a soft sandy bottom. You can stand for a long distance from the shore, making the spot very safe for beginners and children. The main practice area offers a gradual depth allowing for easy and secure launching.
In summer (June to September), the water is warm, around 22-24°C, and a wetsuit is not necessary. In winter (November to February), the water temperature drops to about 18°C, requiring a light wetsuit of 3-4 mm. In spring and autumn, the water is between 18 and 20°C, a light wetsuit is recommended.
