Conditions de navigation

The spot works well with winds from South-Southeast to Northwest, the best being South-Southeast or the West to Northwest sector for perfect side-shore wind on this west-facing beach. The launch area is directly on the fine, wide, and easily accessible sand, with a dedicated kitesurfing zone marked to avoid bathers.

At low tide, the water is flat, ideal for beginners and freestyle, with shallow water for a good distance. From mid-tide, waves form, making the spot more fun for surfing or wave riding in kites, especially an hour before high tide.

The navigation area is spacious thanks to the 3 km of beach, but stay within the marked zones for kites. Launching is easy on the dry sand, and the spot is not too crowded, even in season. Be cautious of other activities like surfing and land sailing that share the space.

Ideal conditions are a side-shore wind of 15-25 knots coming from the West or Northwest, with a flat to moderately choppy water surface. Perfect at mid-rising tide for fun waves without excess.

État de la mer

The state of the water varies with the tide: flat at low tide for calm freestyle, then chop and small waves at mid-tide and beyond. The bottom is sandy everywhere, with no large rocks offshore.

The waves are invigorating for surfers but manageable for kites, with small breaks ideal for children or beginners.

Courants marins

The tides are significant on Oléron, with high coefficients creating moderate currents. The current generally remains weak on the beach, but it can intensify during spring tides near the surfing areas.

Stay vigilant to rapid changes due to strong Charente coefficients.

Taille de kite recommandée

Opt for sizes from 9 to 12 m² in light West wind around 13 knots, as observed locally. In stronger Atlantic gusts, go down to 7-9 m².

Météo & vent

The dominant wind comes from the Northwest and West, typical of the Atlantic coast, with light sessions at 13 knots observed on site in October. The regime is regular due to ocean exposure, and the spot works well from SSE to NW.

No specific local name, but the Atlantic trade winds ensure good consistency, especially in the intermediate season.

Rainfall is regular but short, and the spot is rideable 12 months a year according to data, with a good wind score of 78/100.

Profondeur

La profondeur est progressive avec un fond entièrement sableux. On a pied sur une bonne distance à marée basse, idéal pour l'école.

Température de l’eau

Water temperatures range from 10-12°C in winter to 20-22°C in summer. A shorty wetsuit is recommended outside the warm season.
