Plage de la Giraudière
France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The Giraudière beach, located on the island of Oléron at Grand-Village-Plage, offers 3 km of fine sand bordered by a pine forest. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing, surfing, and land sailing all year round, with a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.
The northern part is reserved for naturism, and the beach is easily accessible on foot, by bike, or by small train in summer. Swimming is supervised in July-August, and you can swim at both high and low tide.
Facilities such as a first aid station, equipment rentals, and a bar are available in season, making the spot convenient for all riders.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The spot works well with winds from South-Southeast to Northwest, the best being South-Southeast or the West to Northwest sector for perfect side-shore wind on this west-facing beach. The launch area is directly on the fine, wide, and easily accessible sand, with a dedicated kitesurfing zone marked to avoid bathers.
At low tide, the water is flat, ideal for beginners and freestyle, with shallow water for a good distance. From mid-tide, waves form, making the spot more fun for surfing or wave riding in kites, especially an hour before high tide.
The navigation area is spacious thanks to the 3 km of beach, but stay within the marked zones for kites. Launching is easy on the dry sand, and the spot is not too crowded, even in season. Be cautious of other activities like surfing and land sailing that share the space.
