La Tremblade

The Galon d’Or beach is located on the Côte Sauvage in La Tremblade, facing Oléron. It is a popular spot for kitesurfing and surfing, with a large free parking area and quick access to the beach.

The beach is unsupervised and suitable for walks, but it is important to check the signs as some areas are prohibited depending on the tides. In high season, it can be quite crowded.

The spot offers privileged sliding conditions on this Atlantic coast, in a wild and natural setting.

Location

Detailed information

The spot is exposed to the NE wind which is side-on or side-shore relative to the west-facing beach, partially protected by the bordering forest. The launch is directly from the wide sandy beach, with an easy take-off area thanks to the nearby parking.

Navigate only during high tide as the current is huge and can pull you offshore during low tide. Along the beach, there is a relatively calm and protected area of 200 meters with NE wind, ideal for staying close to the shore.

At high tide, exit 15 to 30 minutes early to avoid risks, especially if having difficulties with water starts or pulling on the safety line. The water appears flat but from force 5 of wind, it becomes infamous chop, making navigation technical and chaotic further offshore where the tide flow against the wind creates disorder.

Limited navigation zones near the beach for safety, avoid going too far. Not a spot for beginners due to the complexity of the conditions.
