Les Trois Pierres
France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
Les Trois Pierres is a spot exposed at the northern end of Huttes beach, on the island of Oléron in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Located in the municipality of Saint-Denis-d'Oléron, it offers direct access via a concrete ramp used for boats. It is a technical spot favored by experienced riders for its windy conditions facing the Atlantic Ocean.
The parking is located at the edge of the road, at the northern end of Dunes street. The atmosphere is lively with the presence of the local association O'Také, which often helps with launching and landing. You regularly encounter locals and experts who monitor the conditions.
The spot works well all year round, with a varied water surface depending on the tides and the prevailing north-west winds.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
Favorable winds mainly come from W to NW, providing a perfect side-shore that allows for wide navigation without drifting towards the shore. In SSO onshore wind, the waves become challenging for takeoff and it is difficult to move away from the shore, better to head towards Chaucre beach further south. The navigation area extends in front of Huttes beach, with a launch via the concrete ramp that facilitates access even at low tide.
The water surface is flat and shallow near the shore, ideal for maneuvers, but quickly turns to chop and small waves with established wind. The launch area is spacious on the wide Huttes beach, often assisted by locals from the O'Také association. Beware of anchored boats in summer that reduce space, and rocks that become exposed depending on the tide. At high tide, the spot gains depth and fluidity, while at low tide, you can stand for a long time but the rocks become more visible.
The spot is oriented northwest, exposed to Atlantic depressions for regular and powerful wind. Access is easy by car via the D26 and D734, then towards Les Trois Pierres before Saint-Denis.
