Plage de Boyardville
France · Nouvelle-Aquitaine
The beach of Boyardville, located on the island of Oléron in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, offers a family-friendly setting with its long sandy beach and stunning view of the Fort Boyard. It is a popular spot for kiters due to its generous space and calm water protected by the bay.
Close to the lively village, it is easily accessible by following the signs from the D26 to the north of the island. The beach stretches nearly 2 km along the Saumonards forest, ideal for combining kite sessions and walks.
In summer, it is very busy, but the atmosphere remains relaxed with kitesurfing schools nearby.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The beach of Boyardville faces west, in a sheltered bay that favors winds from N, NE, E, SE in side-on or side-shore perfect for navigation. East winds bring a good gradient above 20 m, often requiring extensions to fully enjoy.
The water state is flat to choppy, flatter in the morning with the SE thermal at 8-10 knots that drops around 10-11 am when the heat rises; arrive early for the best sessions. The launch area is directly on the long sandy beach with plenty of space, launch zone to the north of the village.
The navigation area is wide in the bay, with little swell thanks to natural protection, but booties are mandatory due to mussels on the bottom. At low tide, the water retreats far, making navigation technical; prefer high tide for more comfort. Parking is possible in front of the Café de la Plage off-season, be cautious of no entry in summer.
