Hatainville

Hatainville beach, located on the coast of the English Channel in Normandy, is a vast sandy beach lined with impressive dunes. It is a spot favored by locals for its waves and its westward exposure that captures the swells from the Atlantic.

The beach is also frequented for kitesurfing and surfing, with a rather local and natural atmosphere, and parking access close to the shore.

Location

Detailed information

The wind predominantly comes from the West to Northwest, which gives a **side-shore to side-onshore** orientation depending on the exact launch from Hatainville.

The depth is gradual with a predominantly sandy bottom. You can stand very far out at low tide, which offers large flat areas suitable for foiling and freestyle when the tide goes out.

Waves are present mainly at high tide and can be medium to large depending on the outer swell; the beach thus works well for both wave riding and flat water kiting depending on the tide.

Navigation areas: most of the large beach is navigable, but one should avoid areas close to the passes and crowded foot fishing zones at low tide.

Launching and takeoff: several accesses from the parking lot allow for direct launching on the sand; prefer clear areas away from walkers and unmonitored swimming zones.

Local features: high and numerous dunes, strong variation in navigable space depending on the tide coefficient, and the presence of local surfers on the sandbanks.
