Siouville-Hague

The beach of Siouville-Hague, located on the northern coast of Cotentin in Normandy, is a legendary spot that attracts surfers and kitesurfers all year round. It consists of two distinct beaches, one wild and the other monitored, offering a vast area of fine sand ideal for launching and taking off the kites.

The Cotentin Surf Club, certified as a French surf school, offers courses and gathers the best specialists in the region during events like the Siouville Surf Open. It is a popular place for beginners due to its accessible conditions, but also for experts when the waves get bigger.

Close to Cap de la Hague, the beach offers an authentic atmosphere with possible walks and generally good coexistence between disciplines.

Location

Detailed information

The beach of Siouville-Hague is oriented west-southwest, making it ideal for wind from the west to southwest where the wind is side-on shore on starboard, perfect for waveriding or freeride. With wind from south to southeast, it becomes side-offshore, favoring memorable sessions with swell, especially at outgoing tide on moderate coefficients.

The water surface varies with the tides: at low tide, it is flatter with a large sandy area for launching and taking off, ideal for beginners and freestyle; at high tide, the waves form and can reach several meters, transforming the spot into a surf-kite paradise. The vast beach allows for navigation without disturbing the many surfers: stay in the dedicated kite areas, often to the south or north depending on the wind, and avoid the central breaking waves.

Launching is done directly from the wide sand, with plenty of space to inflate and take off. Conditions become extreme with strong winds, with powerful waves, so increased vigilance is required. A northwest thermal develops in summer for regular sessions.
