Biville

Biville beach, located on the Manche coast in Normandy, is a rather wild coastal area frequented by local surfers and kiters. The beach stretches over sand with dune sectors and access via coastal paths. It is a spot appreciated for its relative tranquility and proximity to other spots in Cotentin.

Biville beach works for both surfing and kitesurfing depending on the tide and wind direction. The attendance remains moderate outside of strong swells and summer weekends, leaving room to navigate.

Location

Detailed information

The wind between West and Northwest is generally favorable and blows side-on/side-shore depending on the precise take-off location relative to the dune. With East to Northeast winds, the spot can become onshore and more complicated for launching and landing kites. The water surface varies with the tide: at low tide, the water becomes shallow and relatively flat, while at high tide, the swell creates beach break sectors and breaking waves.

Launching is done from the accesses via the coastal path, be careful of the dunes and distant parking — plan for a short walk with the equipment. The navigation areas stretch along the beach; avoid swimming areas in summer where kiting is often prohibited or regulated. Rocky areas are mainly located near the beach heads and close to certain hazards; staying central on the sandy beach limits these risks.

Local particularities: the tide has a strong impact on the configuration of the spot (flat at low tide, chop/swell at high tide), the coastal thermal effect can strengthen the wind during the day in certain months, and the coastal configuration generates local currents near the passes. It is recommended to check for prohibited areas and the presence of rip currents or channels before heading out for a session.
