Sciotot

The beach of Sciotot, located between the cap de Flamanville and the cap du Rozel on the Cotentin coast in Normandy, is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region. This spot attracts sliding enthusiasts with its fine sand and impressive cliffs that frame the bay.

It is a popular place for surfing, kitesurfing, and land sailing, with a sailing and wind activity center that offers introductions for all levels. The Sciotot Surf School, located in a tiny house near the main parking lot, facilitates access to sessions.

The atmosphere is family-friendly and relaxed, ideal for combining sport and relaxation by the sea.

Location

Detailed information

The beach of Sciotot is oriented west-northwest, making it ideal for winds from the south to southwest in side-on or side-off, and from north-northwest in onshore. With south wind, the spot works well for kitesurfing but with lower quality than Le Rozel or Le Grand Large; it becomes really interesting as soon as the swell exceeds 1 m with a period of 10 seconds or wind over 20 knots onshore.

The water surface varies greatly with the tides: at low tide, the beach extends widely with an accessible sandy bottom, perfect for launching and first sessions, but avoid high coefficients where it can become technical. At high tide, the water rises high (up to 8 m), reducing the take-off space and making navigation more exposed to waves; prefer the falling tide which offers the best conditions.

The navigation area extends in front of the beach, with good width for maneuvering, but the wind is often gusty here, less consistent than at Siouville or on the north coast. For take-off, use the beach near the main parking lot, wide and sandy. In side-on with wind swell, it quickly forms small exploitable waves for jumps and surfing, even at low tide, but watch out for the ocean swell that can turn the session into swimming.
