Cape Town

Dolphin Beach, located in the Table View area north of Cape Town, is one of the most popular and accessible kitesurfing spots in the Cape Peninsula. This beach offers an excellent balance between consistent wave conditions and steady wind, making it a favored destination for both kite schools and experienced riders seeking quality sessions.

The spot benefits from an ideal geographical position, located a few hundred meters downstream from Sunset Beach and just before Kite Beach. It is a place where professional riders are often seen training, especially during the high season. The local infrastructure is well developed with beach facilities, restaurants, and kite schools nearby.

Location

Detailed information

Dolphin Beach offers side-shore conditions with wind blowing from the southeast, creating regular and predictable waves. The wind generally starts to pick up late in the morning and reaches its optimal strength in the early afternoon. The launch area is gradual and well-clear, ideal for take-offs at all levels.

The water surface presents waves between 1 and 4 meters under normal conditions, with the possibility of obtaining larger swells during stormy periods. Beyond the breaking zone, the swell becomes more regular and easier to navigate. The gradual depth allows for good safety for riders of all levels. The spot works well at both high and low tide, making it accessible practically all day.

Pay special attention at sunset: the sun sets directly in front of the beach, which can make it difficult to see other riders. It is recommended to stay vigilant and clearly identify other water users during this time.

Risks & Safety

  • Be cautious at sunset: the sun sets directly in front of the beach, significantly reducing visibility of other riders. Stay vigilant and clearly identify other water users.

  • The spot can become very crowded during the high season, with potentially 150 kites or more in the air. Maintain good situational awareness and respect the space of other riders.

  • Waves can become significant during large swells. Less experienced riders should stay in shallow areas and avoid venturing too far offshore.
