Cape Town

Milnerton is a kitesurfing spot located in Cape Town in South Africa, near the mouth of the Milnerton River. It is a popular place for riders of all levels due to its shallow water at the start and the lagoon formed by the estuary.

The Milnerton beach offers a pleasant setting with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and proximity to the city. Locals often come here for quiet sessions, especially when the wind is well established.

The spot is known for its relaxed atmosphere and conditions suitable for beginners, with a protected lagoon area.

Location

Detailed information

The Milnerton spot works well with a SW wind that is side-on relative to the northwest-facing beach, allowing for easy launches from the medium-sized beach. The navigation area extends into the shallow lagoon for the first 50 meters, then into the ocean with small to medium waves. Launching is done directly on the beach near the river, with a decent launch area but to be monitored when it is crowded. In SE wind, it is more offshore and gusty, ideal for progressing in waves but less consistent at the shore. Tides have little influence on the lagoon which remains navigable, with a flat to choppy water surface inside and small waves outside. Be cautious of downwinds towards Tableview for longer sessions.
