Workum
Workum Strand, located on the shores of the IJsselmeer in Friesland, is a popular spot for kiters due to its shallow water and relaxed atmosphere. The sandy beach and large lawn nearby allow for easy kite setup, while the free parking is right by the water.
The right side of the beach is reserved for kiters, the center for swimmers with a line of buoys, and the left for windsurfers. It is an ideal place to progress, with kite schools on-site and a friendly atmosphere where everyone helps each other.
Open year-round, it attracts many people in the summer, especially Germans, and offers consistent conditions for all levels.

Detailed information
Winds from S to NW are the safest, side-shore or side-on relative to the east-west oriented beach, providing good constant pull. The water is flat and shallow up to 200-300m in front of the sandbar, perfect for beginners and freestyle; beyond that, it becomes deeper with small choppy waves from the IJsselmeer, up to 1m in strong winds.
Launching mandatory in the water in June-August, kite zone north of the beach, launching from the lawn allowed off-season. Zones well marked by flags and balloon lines: max 150 kites at the same time, 30 max for schools in summer. Foil excellent everywhere, and the atmosphere is relaxed with mutual help.
Pay attention to the rules displayed at the yellow pole: red flag = immediate stop of the kite. Registered schools in the town hall mandatory in summer.
