Bel Ombre

Bel Ombre beach, located on the southwest coast of Mauritius, is a typical fishing village with a wild and spacious setting. It is a spot accessible to all levels, with a large lagoon ideal for beginners and freestyle.

The KiteGlobing center is located at the end of the beach, managed by enthusiasts like Kathrin and Maxwell. There is a bar, a snack, wifi, and sun loungers, with lessons for all levels and a safety boat.

The spot remains uncrowded, perfect for a friendly atmosphere, and it is close to the Heritage C Beach Club, less than a 10-minute walk from nearby hotels.

Location

Detailed information

Bel Ombre beach is oriented southwest, which means that the prevailing winds from south to southeast arrive side-on or side-shore, providing stable conditions for sailing. The large protected lagoon ensures a flat to light chop water surface ideal for beginners and freestyle, with little depth at the start for easy launching.

The launch area is spacious on the wide beach, and sailing is mainly done in the lagoon up to the reef, where independent riders can aim for small waves. Be cautious of strong currents near the reef, especially when exiting the lagoon; the center's support boat is recommended for advanced sessions.

The tides have little influence on the lagoon, but at low tide, the shallow bottom facilitates the first glides, while at high tide, the sailing space slightly expands. The launch areas are marked near the center, avoiding the swimming areas of nearby resorts.
