Pointe Jerome is a kitesurfing spot located in Mahebourg, in the southeast of Mauritius, just 15 minutes from the airport. The beach belongs to the Preskil resort and offers a simple setting with fine sand, a few palm trees, and a tranquil atmosphere favored by locals.
Close to Grand Port, it is a convenient place for quick sessions after a flight, with a small sandy beach and amenities like food on site. Access is easy from Mahebourg, ideal for combining kiting and exploring the island.
The spot is known for its varied water conditions and reliable trade-wind during the southern winter season.
The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
The dominant wind comes from the E, ESE, and SE, providing a perfect side-on on this southeast-facing beach. The water is flat and choppy, with a spacious riding area in front of the beach, but the launch and take-off area is small due to the narrow beach.
High tide is recommended as it facilitates launching and landing on the narrow sandy beach. Watch for obstacles at the edge: a small concrete bridge and submerged rocks or concrete near the shore. Navigation takes place in a protected lagoon, with onlookers sometimes present on the beach.
Rescuers are on site for safety, and food is available. Taking off requires caution due to the palm trees and small space, but once launched, the spot offers stable conditions for all maneuvers.
Ideal conditions are a side-on E to SE wind between 15 and 25 knots, stable and thermal during the day. High tide to maximize launch space.
The water is flat and choppy, with a sandy bottom in the lagoon. Waves can form with strong side-off winds, but the spot remains mostly calm and suitable for freestyle or freeride.
Currents are generally weak in the lagoon, but one should monitor variations related to tides. High tide is preferable for more comfort and safety.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12 m² in medium trade-wind, and 7 to 9 m² when it picks up during cyclone season. Adjust according to your weight and style.
The wind regime is dominated by the trade-wind from the east and southeast, particularly reliable from June to October with 15-25 knots almost daily. During the cyclone season, the wind can blow all day without respite.
The best months are June, July, August, September, and October, with regular and predictable wind.
The tropical climate of Mauritius offers pleasant temperatures year-round, around 25-30°C in the hot season (November to April) and 20-25°C in the cool season (May to October). It is a very safe island with a relaxed vibe, perfect for kite trips with family or friends.
The cyclone season can bring strong, consistent winds, but the spot remains accessible with precautions.
The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom in the lagoon. You can stand near the shore at low tide, but it drops off quickly towards the open water.
The water is warm year-round, around 24-28°C, peaking at 28°C in summer (December-March) and a minimum of 24°C in the southern winter (July-August). Generally, no wetsuit is needed.
