Kypri Bay is a beautiful beach located on the west coast of Andros, between Batsi and the port of Gavrio. It is an ideal place for families and bathers due to its fine sand and calm water.
The spot mainly attracts windsurfing enthusiasts and other water sports, with a dedicated center like Wesurfin offering various activities. The atmosphere is relaxed, perfect for combining sessions and relaxation at the beach bar.
Despite sometimes present winds in the Cyclades, the bay is sheltered and rarely offers choppy conditions for kitesurfing.
The beach of Kypri Bay faces west, making it a spot exposed to west and northwest winds in side-shore or side-on depending on the dominant direction in the Cyclades. The water surface generally remains calm even with strong wind, thanks to the bay's protection, with no marked influence from tides.
The navigation area extends across the entire width of the bay, wide and spacious to accommodate several riders without congestion. The launch is easy directly from the sand, with an organized beach that leaves plenty of free space for takeoff and landing of kites.
Local feature: the Wesurfin center offers equipment on-site for windsurfing, wing foiling, or kiting, ideal for testing without transporting your gear. Prefer sessions when the wind rises to 15-25 knots from the NW for a smooth ride, but the spot is not consistent and windless days are common.
The ideal conditions are winds of 15-25 knots from the NW or W in side-shore, for a smooth water surface and consistent power.
The water remains calm with few waves, even in strong winds, thanks to the sheltered configuration of the bay. The bottom is sandy and gradual.
The currents are weak in the sheltered bay of Kypri. Tides have little impact in the Mediterranean, with a minimal range of less than 1 meter.
Opt for sizes 9 to 12 m² in typical conditions, smaller like 7-9 m² if the wind picks up strongly from the NW.
The winds are irregular at Kypri Bay, rarely strong directly on the beach due to its protection. In the Cyclades, the typical regime comes from the northwest or west, with sessions possible at 15-25 knots in the warm season.
No specific local name like the dominant Meltem further north, but thermal breezes in the afternoon during summer.
The Mediterranean climate of Andros offers hot, dry summers with temperatures around 25-30°C from June to September. Winters are mild, between 10-15°C, but wetter.
All year round is feasible according to the data, with a wind score of 84/100, although summer dominates for kite sessions.
The depth is gradual with a completely sandy bottom. You can stand up to about thirty meters from the shore.
In summer, the water reaches 22-25°C from June to September. In spring and autumn, expect 18-22°C, and 15-18°C in winter.
