The Paralia Kavouri spot works well with side-onshore winds coming from SE, SSE, S, and SSW, which come in perpendicular to the northwest-oriented beach. The launch area is directly from the sandy beach, with a wide take-off zone but to be shared with swimmers during the day. The navigation area extends 200-300 meters offshore before the water becomes deep, ideal for jumps and freestyle in medium waves.
No tidal influence at this spot in the Mediterranean, the water surface remains constant. Be careful to stay in the downwind area to avoid rocky zones at the ends. Waves form with strong wind, reaching 1-2 meters, suitable for riders accustomed to choppy conditions.
Ideal conditions are a wind of 15-25 kts from the SSE or S, side-on, for a rideable water surface without excess power.
The water surface is typically chop with moderate wind, evolving into medium waves when the wind howls from the southeast. The water remains clear even during choppy sessions.
Currents are generally weak at this sheltered spot, with no significant tides in the Mediterranean. There is no major channel to watch out for, but a slight downwind current can form with strong winds.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12m in medium wind, and 7-9m when it picks up beyond 20 kts.
The dominant wind is a thermal south wind that picks up in the afternoon, often around 15-25 kts in season. It blows consistently year-round, but stronger in winter with powerful southeast winds generating nice waves.
The Mediterranean climate of Attica offers hot, dry summers with temperatures around 25-35°C from May to September, and mild but wetter winters. Sessions are comfortable year-round, but the best months for kiting are February to May and September to November when the wind is more reliable.
The depth increases rapidly after 20-30 meters from the shore, with a bottom mainly sandy and some rocky areas.
In summer, the water reaches 24-27°C, a shorty is sufficient. In spring and autumn, expect 18-22°C, plan for a long wetsuit.
