Six-Four-les-Plages

Bonnegrâce Beach, located in Six-Fours-les-Plages in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, is also known as Brutal Beach. It is a gravel strip about 1.2 kilometers long, bordered by the Promenade du Général de Gaulle, in close proximity to the port and the tourist office. The beach offers a magnificent view of the seaside resort of Sanary-sur-Mer and has excellent accessibility from the city center.

This spot is recognized as one of the largest beaches in Six-Fours and attracts a large number of visitors, especially in high season. It is appreciated for its generous waves and its potential for extreme water sports. Along the beach, a pleasant pedestrian promenade features numerous shops, bars, restaurants, and hotels, as well as a market on Sundays near Sanary. Designated swimming areas between the various jetties complete the infrastructure.

Location

Detailed information

Brutal Beach works well with southwest, west, and northwest winds, offering particularly interesting side-shore to side-on conditions. The spot is also active with east winds, although conditions are less optimal. The gravel beach with a sandy bottom allows for easy and secure water entry for launching.

The shorebreak can be a real challenge, especially on the farthest part of the beach, and requires good technical mastery. The waves generated by wind conditions can be tricky for less experienced riders. The navigation area extends along the entire length of the beach, separated by jetties that create distinct coves. It is recommended to check the wind forecasts on Windguru before each session to anticipate conditions.

The high attendance at the spot, especially in summer, requires constant vigilance to avoid collisions with other riders and swimmers. Nearby parking fills up quickly in high season, so it is advisable to arrive early to find a spot.

Risks & Safety

  • The shorebreak can be very violent, especially on the far part of the beach, and requires confirmed experience to be managed properly.

  • Rocks are exposed in certain areas, particularly at Pointe Nègre at the end of the beach, and should be avoided.

  • The high traffic at the spot, especially in summer, requires constant vigilance to avoid collisions with other riders and swimmers.

  • The road is close to the beach, which can be a concern for families with children and requires special attention during launches.

  • Seaweed may be present in winter, affecting navigation conditions and visibility.
