Sables d’Or les Pins

The Grève du Minieu beach, located in Sables-d'Or-les-Pins, offers a wide stretch of sand bordered by dunes and beach grass facing the Saint-Michel islet. It is a spot favored by locals for its length and versatility, suitable for kitesurfing, windsurfing, and land sailing. The dune front and the proximity to the city center provide easy access while maintaining a natural setting.

The beach measures nearly three kilometers and features developed access points with ramps. In summer, some areas are monitored and facilities for people with reduced mobility are available.

Location

Detailed information

The dominant wind is generally from the northwest to west, which often gives a side-shore to side-on component depending on where on the beach one is sailing. Launching is easy on the wide sandy stretches, with several public access points and wide beaches allowing for safe take-offs. The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom, and one can stand for long distances at low tide, which facilitates learning and starts for beginners. The navigation areas can be extensive along the beach; however, one should avoid the dune spit and the Saint-Michel islet accessible at low tide to avoid getting trapped by the current or tide.

In case of swell or established wind from west/northwest, waves can form on the exposed part; in the sectors sheltered by the dune spit, the water can remain flatter. The presence of other users (swimmers, sailing clubs, land sailors) is common in high season, so prioritize less crowded areas for take-off and landing. Motorized vessels may be present near the shore at certain times.
