Lancieux

The Saint-Sieu beach in Lancieux, on the Emerald Coast in Brittany, is the largest beach in the municipality. It offers a large space at low tide, perfect for kitesurfing enthusiasts, and even hosted the UNSS French Championship in 2019.

It is a family-friendly spot in summer with a nautical center and activities for children, but off-season, it becomes a favored place for kitesurfing and land sailing. The waterfront is calm, and the proximity to Saint-Briac-sur-Mer and Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer makes it a popular spot for locals.

The eastern part is livelier with cabins and a nautical club, while the west is wilder, up to the rocky point of the Islet.

Location

Detailed information

Saint-Sieu beach is oriented West-Northwest, making it an ideal spot for winds from the West-Northwest to North-Northeast, often in side-on or side-shore conditions perfect for freeride and freestyle. At low tide, a large space opens up with calm and safe water, ideal for beginners who can stand for a long time; launching is easy on the sand, and the navigation area extends widely into the bay of Lancieux.

At mid-tide, the water surface is the flattest and most pleasant for riding without excessive chop, with a good launch area on the wide beach. However, at high tide, it becomes complicated with chop, swell, and a troublesome shorebreak, making navigation more technical and less recommended for novices. The bay of Lancieux works with all wind orientations and all tides, but west and onshore winds can be gusty depending on the tide.

Local peculiarity: possible overcrowding in south winds, as it is one of the few practicable spots in the region; keep your safety distances from other kitesurfers, windsurfers, and swimmers. In summer, kitesurfing is prohibited (July-August), with swimming zones and horses; off-season, stay away from long coastlines and beachgoers. For experts, small waves are possible, and the Letty lagoon is accessible but should be well-known beforehand.
